A $1,250 reward is being offered for information involving an animal cruelty investigation in Marseilles regarding torture to a cat.
After being treated at Fox Valley Veterinary Hospital in Ottawa, Freyr, the cat, is recovering. Community members paid Freyr’s vet bills.
“His story will have a happy ending,” said a Facebook post made by the city of Marseilles.
Marseilles police officers were dispatched to a residence Friday in the 600 block of Ryall Street. Upon arrival, officers were informed the cat was seen around 6 a.m. in good health. By 1 p.m. a neighbor had located the cat, which had been tortured, police said.
According to Marseilles police, the suspect, still unknown, had poured Gorilla Glue and a substance identified possibly as corn meal all over the cat. Officers also located zip ties on the cat’s paws, which were removed.
Torturing an animal is a felony in Illinois, the Marseilles police said. They are investigating the case.
If anyone has any information, contact the Marseilles Police Department at 815-795-2131 and ask for Detective Mike Bird.
A reward was collected from donations throughout the community, including a $250 reward that was matched by another $250 from Marseilles Mayor Jim Hollenbeck.
