Aurora man dies in fatal motorcycle crash near Shabbona, DeKalb County Sheriff’s officials say

SHABBONA – The DeKalb County Coroner’s Office confirmed a 46-year-old Aurora man died in a fatal motorcycle crash Tuesday afternoon near Shabbona.

According to DeKalb County Sheriff’s officials, the single-vehicle crash occurred at 2:52 p.m. Tuesday “on U.S. Highway 30 just west of University Road in Shabbona.”

“The identity of the victim from yesterday’s fatal accident has been positively identified as Lawrence W. Miller, 46, last of Aurora, Illinois,” DeKalb County Coroner Dennis Miller wrote in a Wednesday news release.

Sheriff’s officials wrote previously that Lawrence Miller “was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 30 just west of University Road.” Miller’s motorcycle then “traveled off of the roadway into the north ditch and overturned.”

“The sole occupant was discovered after the crash occurred and had not been wearing a helmet,” the Tuesday news release states.

Sheriff’s officials wrote that Lawrence Miller was transported to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb and later pronounced dead. Dennis Miller wrote in Wednesday’s news release that the Aurora man was pronounced dead at 3:48 p.m. Tuesday.

“The DeKalb County Coroner and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s offices are investigating the accident,” Dennis Miller wrote in the Wednesday news release.

DeKalb County Sheriff Andy Sullivan said Wednesday it was “unknown” why Lawrence Miller’s motorcycle left the roadway.

“And there were no witnesses to the crash, either,” Sullivan said.

There is no relation between the victim and the coroner, Sullivan said.
