Big jump in new COVID-19 cases reported in Kane County Thursday

Illinois public officials on Thursday reported 166 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and one new death, a man in his 80s. There were 140 new cases reported Wednesday.

Kane County has now seen 57,071 total cases of the virus and 761 people have died.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 99 consecutive days below 8%. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 5.6%. Currently, 23% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average decreased to 6.9% and DuPage County’s stayed flat at 5.0%.

Hospitalizations increased seven out of the past 10 days in this region.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state’s 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 3,394 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 38 additional deaths Thursday. The IDPH received the results of 89,057 tests leading up to Thursday afternoon.

According to the IDPH, the rolling seven-day positivity rate average in the state is 3.5%.

Illinois now has seen 1,331,848 total cases of the virus, and 21,927 people have died.
