ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP – Thomas Summerwill, the Campton Hills man accused of beating his mother to death with a baseball bat, pleaded guilty Wednesday to involuntary manslaughter of a family member and was sentenced to 48 months of probation and 200 hours of community service.
He was originally charged with, and indicted on, two counts of second degree murder.
The plea was negotiated with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
According to police, both local and sheriff’s police officers responded to a 911 call at Summerwill’s home March 24, 2019 and found his mother, Mary Bridget Summerwill, who was subsequently transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, where she later died of cranial injuries.
Summerwill’s blood alcohol content the night of the incident was .270%.
This is a developing story and more information is forthcoming.
