Chicago woman pulled over on I-80 charged with battering officer

A Chicago woman who was pulled over on Interstate 80 in Joliet was charged with battering a police officer.

Jasmine Flowers, 31, was arrested shortly after midnight on Halloween near the Briggs Street exit of Interstate 80, Trooper Haylie Polistina of the Illinois State Police said in an email Tuesday.

A trooper stopped Flowers for a “violation of the Illinois Vehicle Code,” Polistina said.

“During the traffic stop investigation, the Trooper observed indicators of impairment,” she said, and Flowers was arrested on probable cause of driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Monday, prosecutors filed a charge of driving under the influence against Flowers, as well as numerous traffic violations and charges of aggravated battery of a peace officer and criminal damage to property.

Polistina provided no information on why Flowers was charged with aggravated battery or criminal damage to property, and said none would be forthcoming for the time being.

“This is an ongoing investigation with possible additional charges,” she said. “No further information is available at this time.”
