Dixon police arrest Princeton man for pizzeria burglary

DIXON – A 48-year-old Princeton man was arrested around midnight for burglary and aggravated assault at a local pizzeria, police said Friday.

Brian T. Shumack, 48, of Princeton, was arrested after fleeing from Al & Leda’s Pizzeria, 325 W. Everett St., where police responded to a call of a burglary in progress, according to a news release from the Dixon Police Department.

Officers responded to the scene and observed one suspect fleeing west from the business. The Dixon Police Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police set up a perimeter in the area, and a police K-9 tracked Shumack laying back in the front seat of a vehicle parked west of the business.

Police told Shumack to exit the vehicle, but he fled and a Lee County Deputy standing near the front of the vehicle had to move out of the way so he wouldn’t be struck, according to the release.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle traveling in the 100 block of West Morgan Street. Officers conducted a traffic stop, and Shumack was taken into custody without incident.

Shumack was processed and taken to the Lee County Jail to await bond.

The burglary charge carries a possible sentence of 3 to 5 years in prison, and the aggravated assault charge is punishable by 1 to 3 years.
