ELBURN – The Elburn Parks Commission is hosting Run the Rails, a 1-mile fun run and 4- and 7 mile races, on Aug. 21 at Prairie Park in Elburn.
According to a news release, the course is open to both runners and walkers. Race swag, including racer backs and tank tops, is available while supplies last. Online registration is open until Aug. 17 and there will also be registration at packet pickup and on race day. You can find registration information and volunteer information at https://runtherails-sponsor.raceroster.com/.
According to the release, while this is the first year for Run the Rails, the committee putting on the race is not new to coordinating race events. Earlier this year, the Railside 4/7 decided to disband, and a new committee formed that wanted to continue hosting a premier race in Elburn. The village of Elburn and Parks Commission agreed to host.
The race committee consists of Bill Ott, Tom Rogal, Caitlin Slomski, Paula Brewer, Svea Bylsma, Amy Szumy, Gene Stern, James Sobucki and Rob Reilley, who are all runners in the community.
Racers can also enjoy a post-race Boy Scout Pancake Breakfast at American Legion Post 630.
