Fire in Coal City apartment building

COAL CITY – At 9:14 p.m. May 19, the Coal City Fire District was requested to the 500 block of East Third Street in Coal City, fire district paramedic Lt. Nick Doerfler said in a news release.

Upon the crew’s arrival, a fire was located in a lower unit of an apartment building, according to the release. Crews made entry and extinguished the fire, keeping most of the damage to the lower unit of the building.

Only one occupant was displaced from the fire, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire currently is under investigation by the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal, the MABAS Division 15 fire investigators, the Coal City Police Department and the Coal City Fire District.

No damage estimates were available.

The Coal City Fire District was assisted by numerous agencies, including Braidwood, Wilmington, Morris, Gardner, Channahon, Dwight, Elwood, Troy and Manhattan fire departments; the Wilmington Emergency Service Disaster Agency; and the Grundy County Emergency Management Agency.
