The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 5,343 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 130 additional deaths Saturday, and a total of 471,157 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered.
The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate decreased from 6.5% to 6.3%. The state received the results of 102,372 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Saturday afternoon.
Illinois has seen 1,064,667 total cases of the virus, and 18,179 people have died. The state has conducted a total of 14,667,148 tests since the start of the pandemic.
As of late Friday, Illinois had 3,406 COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Of those, 711 were in intensive care units, and 379 were on ventilators.

Vaccine update: As of Saturday, IDPH reported a total of 1,049,675 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed statewide, with 471,157 vaccines administered.
As of the time this story was published, 103,711 of the population of Illinois have been fully vaccinated, or 0.81%. Illinois has a population of 12,741,080 people.
There can be as much as a 72-hour delay in reporting from healthcare providers on vaccines administered.
Gov. JB Pritzker announced Friday that Phase 1A of the Illinois COVID-19 vaccination administration plan is on track to be substantially completed next week, with the entire state moving to Phase 1B on Monday, January 25. Phase 1B includes those who are 65 and older and workers in essential industries, including teachers and grocery store employees.

Regional update: Currently, all 11 of the state’s health regions are under additional mitigation measures from the IDPH. As of Saturday, eight of 11 regions remain under Tier 3 mitigations. Regions 1, 2 and 5 moved to Tier 2 Friday, as they hit all three of the state’s metrics.
The three metrics needed for a region to advance to Tier 2 are:
1) A region’s test positivity below 12% for three straight days (as measured by a seven-day rolling average)
2) 20% or greater available staffed ICU and medical/surgical beds for three straight days (as measured by a three-day rolling average)
3) A decline in number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 for 7 out of 10 days (as measured on a seven-day average.)
Regional data from the IDPH remains on a three-day lag.

The North Suburban region (McHenry and Lake counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12% for its COVID-19 test positivity rate. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 8.9%. Currently, 17.8% of medical/surgical beds are available and 25.3% of ICU beds.
The region has 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and 11 consecutive days under the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.
Within this region, McHenry County’s seven-day positivity rate decreased to 11.9%. Lake County, which does about two-thirds of the testing in the region, is reporting a rolling average of 7.9%.
Hospitalizations have decreased eight out of the past 10 days in this region.
The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 9.4%. Currently, 15.5% of medical/surgical beds are available and 24.7% of ICU beds.
The region has 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and three consecutive days under the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.
Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average is at 10.5%, and DuPage County is at 8.8%.
Hospitalizations have decreased eight out of the past 10 days in this region.
The South Suburban region (Will and Kankakee counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 9.1%. Currently, 23.7% of medical/surgical beds are available and 23.2% of ICU beds.
The region has 11 consecutive above the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and 11 consecutive days above the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.
Hospitalizations have decreased five out of the past 10 days in this region.
The North region (Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under the 12% positivity rate. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 7.4%. Currently, 23.3% of medical/surgical beds are available and 21.9% of ICU beds.
The region has 11 consecutive days above the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and 11 consecutive days above the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.
Within this region, DeKalb County’s positivity rate decreased to 8.9%, Lee County’s rate remained flat at 2.0%, and Whiteside County’s rate decreased to 5.8%.
Hospitalizations have decreased seven out of the past 10 days in this region.
The North-Central region (Bureau, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kendall, Knox, La Salle, Livingston, Marshall, McDonough, McLean, Mercer, Peoria, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Woodford counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate remained flat at 7.9%.
Currently, 24.4% of medical/surgical beds are available and 23% of ICU beds.
The region has 11 consecutive days above the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and 11 consecutive days above the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.
Within this region, La Salle County’s seven-day positivity rate increased to 7.7%.
Chicago has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 9.2%. Currently, 15.3% of medical/surgical beds are available and 25.6% of ICU beds.
The region has 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and 10 consecutive days under the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.
Hospitalizations have decreased 10 out of the past 10 days in this region.
Suburban Cook County has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 9%. Currently, 18% of medical/surgical beds are available and 20.9% of ICU beds.
The region has 11 consecutive days above the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and 11 days under 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.
Hospitalizations have decreased 10 out of the past 10 days in this region.
