A section of Rowell Avenue will be fully closed for four consecutive nights starting Monday as one of the Interstate 80 bridges over the street is removed.
The nightly closures will be on Rowell between Linden and Haven avenues, the Illinois Department of Transportation said in a news release.
The closures will be from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Monday, weather permitting, IDOT said. Thursday night is expected to be the last for the work, which is scheduled to be completed by 6 a.m. Friday.
A detour will direct Rowell traffic to Richards Street, Fourth Street and Mills Road.
IDOT is replacing the eastbound I-80 bridge over Rowell Avenue and a Canadian National Railway line.
IDOT is in the process of replacing several I-80 bridges in Joliet, including eastbound bridges over Hickory Creek and Richards Street and the westbound bridge over Richards Street. The new bridges will be wider with new signage and modernized LED lights, IDOT said.
Eastbound I-80 also will be widened from Gardner Street to Rowell Avenue.
The work is expected to be completed in late 2022 and will be be followed by reconstruction of the westbound bridges, IDOT said.
