Joliet man charged with battering, strangling woman: records

A Joliet man was arrested by Will County Sheriff’s deputies on domestic battery charges alleging he struck and strangled a woman on Sunday.

Sheriff spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said Yobani Hernandez-Aguilar, 27, had also been arrested on additional charges but those charges were not filed court.

Will County State’s Attorney Carole Cheney said the matter is still being investigated.

On Sunday, deputies were called to a residence in Lockport and learned Hernandez-Aguilar had got into a verbal argument with another woman that turned physical, Hoffmeyer said.

Hernandez-Aguilar struck the woman in the face with a pop can and attempted to choke her with a cord while holding her down, Hoffmeyer said.

The woman was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox for medical attention, Hoffmeyer said. Deputies located Hernandez-Aguilar at his residence in the 800 block of Julia Avenue and took him into custody, she said.

The criminal complaint filed against Hernandez-Aguilar charged him with strangling a woman and striking her about the head.

He faces one count of felony aggravated domestic battery and two counts of misdemeanor domestic battery.

Hernandez-Aguilar remains in the Will County jail on a $40,000 bond.
