Monday has proven to be an unusually quiet day in terms of the novel coronavirus in La Salle County, as on the same day Region 2 moved up to Phase 4 of the state’s mitigation plan the La Salle County Health Department (LCHD) reported only 16 news confirmed and probably cases of the disease, just 13 previously reported cases released from isolation and no new COVID-related deaths.
La Salle County’s running totals in those categories since the start of the pandemic stand at 9,874 total cases, 6,790 recoveries and 254 COVID-related deaths. There are 2,830 known, active cases, per current LCHD numbers.
In La Salle County, 7,415 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, an increase of 175 from the previous day’s report, with 949 residents (0.87% of the population) fully vaccinated against the disease (up five from the previous day). Vaccine distribution figures are reported in real time while vaccine administration figures are reported with up to a 72-hour lag.
Of 737 La Salle County residents tested Friday, the latest day with available data from the Illinois Department of Public Health, 6.9% were positive — nearly double the previous day’s positivity rate. From Jan. 16 to 22, the positivity rate has been 5.7%, marking the fourth straight day the seven-day rolling average has declined.
The IDPH’s ZIP code data (which sometimes lag behind county numbers) of total cases since the start of the pandemic, with increases since Sunday’s report, show:
- Sandwich, also is in DeKalb County, is up eight to 1,087.
- Streator, which also is in Livingston County, is up three to 1,668.
- Peru is up two to 1,073.
- Sheridan is up two to 589 (363 of those inmates at Sheridan Correctional Center).
- Somonauk, which also is in DeKalb County, is up two to 326.
- La Salle is up one to 946.
- Marseilles is up one to 651.
- Oglesby is up one to 408.
- Utica is up one to 163.
- Dana is up one to 21.
- Mendota is steady at 1,061.
- Seneca is steady at 259.
- Earlville is steady at 204.
- Leland is steady at 148.
- Wenona, which also is in Marshall County, is steady at 91.
- Grand Ridge is steady at 81.
- Tonica is steady at 79.
- Lostant is steady at 56.
- Serena is steady at 51.
- Millington, which also is in Kendall County, is steady at 45.
- Ransom is steady at 34.
- Rutland is steady at 23.
- Cedar Point is steady at 22.
- Troy Grove is steady at 13.
- Ottawa had one case previously assigned to it transferred to another ZIP code, dropping its total to 1,920.
A man in his 80s, one woman and one man in their 70s, two men and two women in their 60s, three women and one man in their 50s, one woman in her 40s, two men in their 30s and two men in their 20s accounted for Monday’s new cases.
