Letter: A gift to be simple

To the Editor:

This started out simply, as I thought about how good it is to again see the school buses go by in the morning. The idea of simplicity began to grow. Our world today is so full of complex things that we are or can be overwhelmed. There is the evacuation from Afghanistan, COVID-19, and the list easily grows.

The Shaker hymn soon came to mind and I had to look it up. Here is the first verse:

‘Tis the gift to be simple, ‘tis the gift to be free.

‘tis the gift to come down where you ought to be

And when we find ourselves in the place just right

‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.

What are some of the simple things – besides watching the school buses? Receiving a hug from a loved one is high on my list. I hope you will stop and think of some.
