Sixty years ago, at the end of one of his November programs, Red Skelton stepped before his studio audience to “say a few words on behalf of our American home.” He spoke about how the Pilgrims left Europe to seek a land “where they could live free and worship above a whisper.” They found this place in America, where they “offered humble thanks to God” for their deliverance. He then concluded by saying that if anything should happen “to this great nation,” there would be no refuge, for “there will no more free lands” to go to.
Truer words have never been spoken.
