Letter: Thank you to supporters

To the Editor:

Trustee election results are in. Thank you to my supporters.

On April 6, 83 members of my community took to the polls and wrote me in.

Election season (April 6-27, 2021) has finally come to a close, and I am excited to announce we won. This consolidated election was my first-ever experience in government politics. I would like to thank my husband, Steve, for his support in this endeavor. He, along with our friends, family and neighbors, kept my name in the ears of voters during the campaign. Additionally, I want to thank Jim Marter, Kendall County Republican chair, for the encouragement he gave to me during this new experience. Jennifer Wheeler, you are one of my biggest supporters, and I thank you so much for being present and campaigning with me. My parents, my children and my mother-in-law for being flexible and allowing me the space to give this my time and energy.

We took just under 50% of the total write-in votes for this seat. Thank you to all of my constituents for awarding me the opportunity to serve as Little Rock Township trustee. I want to also thank my (write-in) opponents Adam Dunsmoor and Renetta Mickelson. Congratulations to Adam for his success in winning the second write-in seat. I look forward to working with this newly elected board.

Local government is one of the staples of our community’s foundation. Although the township encompasses one of the smallest slices of the “taxation” pie, fiduciary transparency and budget consciousness is essential to continued success. I encourage you to attend your public board meetings so that you, too, will understand how our local government operates.

I thank you again for your confidence in me. I am humbled to accept this seat as your Little Rock Township trustee. Please stay healthy and safe.

Rebecca (Becky) Nelson

Little Rock Township trustee
