Liberty 5K Run/Walk cancelled

MORRIS — The Liberty 5K Run/Walk, sponsored by the Morris Downtown Development Partnership, has been cancelled. The run was done virtually last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the industrial fire on the east side of Morris has prompted this year’s cancellation.

“I am sorry to inform you the Liberty 5K Run/Walk scheduled for this Saturday, July 3, has been cancelled,” MDDP executive director Julie Applegate said. “Unfortunately, many of our City’s resources, like EMS teams and the police department, that we count on for the 5k need to be utilized at the ongoing fire in Morris.”

Applegate said that there is a possibiity of rescheduling the event, and that information would be released as soon as it is available. She also noted that bananas and oranges that were originally planned to be used for runners in the 5K have been given to We Care, which has given them to first responders at the fire scene.
