Danchris, The Outage claim titles; fall league open
Danchris Nursery for the women and The Outage for the men won the tournament championships of Ottawa City Rec Softball on Friday.
Danchris edged Silver Slipper Saloon, 9-8, despite Mindy Taliani’s two hits. Silver Slipper had a bases-loaded chance in the seventh inning, but a fielder’s choice ended the threat. For city champion Danchris, Madison VanNess, Afton Caukins and Olivia Wright each had three hits. Megan Valvo and Alyssa Mussatto added two hits each.
Pineapple Escape won the women’s 3rd-place game by forfeit.
As for the men, The Outage got home runs from David Dillard (two HRs, four hits), Mickey Armstrong, CJ Norman, Taylor Morgan and Nick Allegretti in defeating Berta’s Tap, 20-5, by the mercy rule. Karter Lowery and John Caulkins had three hits apiece. J.J. Less and Austin Kent hit two-run homers for Berta’s, and Christian Jones added four runs.
The consolation game saw Hometown National Bank beat PetSmart, 10-2, behind three hits from Alex Koziel and two apiece from Kyle Farrell, Elliot Kowalski, Mike Koziel and Mike Fleming. Mike Becker and Nolan Keeney had two hits each for PetSmart, with Dustin Tollefson hitting a home run.
Ottawa City Recreation is looking for teams interested in joining the Fall Softball League. Depending on the interest, teams would play Tuesdays and Thursdays in September. There is a six-team minimum to start a league.
