Man taken to hospital after Huntley emergency crews respond to downed aircraft

A 54-year-old man was injured after the aircraft he was in crashed near Huntley in an open field off Route 47.

Observers in the area saw the ultralight, a lightweight aircraft, take off from the immediate area and then quickly bank, according to a news release. Shortly after, the ultralight went into a slow spin and struck the ground.

The ultralight was described as a carbon paramotor ultralight in the release, which is “essentially a parachute with a fan motor attached to the operator.”

The Huntley Police Department and Huntley Fire Protection District were called at 6:54 p.m. to the downed ultralight in the area of Powers Road and Samantha Lane in an open field.

When crews arrived, they found the man injured from a “rapid descent,” which was described in the release as several hundred feet.

The man was treated by the fire department and taken to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital.

The condition of the man was not known at the time of the release, and no additional details are available.
