The McDonald’s near the Louis Joliet Mall will add a second drive-thru lane as part a remodeling of the restaurant.
The McDonald’s at 2885 Plainfield Road is remodeling as the fast-food drive-thru competition increases in the commercial district outside the mall.
Chick-fil-A with two drive-thru lanes opened in January, and Raising Cane’s, another fast-food chicken outlet, plans to with double drive-thru lanes at a nearby Plainfield Road location later this year .
The McDonald’s will be completely remodeled, according to a letter submitted to the city requesting the drive-thru permit that was approved by the Joliet City Council on Monday.
The project includes a side-by-side drive thru with new menu boards, canopies and entry gateway.
City Economic Development Director Derek Conley has said developers are showing strong interest in locations with room for drive-thru operations as that segment of the restaurant business grows during the COVID-19 pandemic.
