Montgomery man arrested on aggravated battery, hate crime charges

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Syed Naqvi, 30, of the 800 block of Victoria Drive, Montgomery, with two counts of aggravated battery and a hate crime in connection with an incident that occurred last month on his street, according to village police.

In a press statement, police said they were summoned to the Victoria Drive location June 19 on a report of a battery. Upon arrival, police said officers located a victim with injuries that required hospitalization.

According to police, the victim told officers that her neighbor, the suspect, had left his apartment and then battered her without provocation. The victim told officers that moments prior to being struck, the suspect had allegedly accused the victim of being in a hate group and then proceeded to punch her.

Police said officers were not able to make contact with the suspect at the scene of the incident and he subsequently refused to cooperate or provide any statement.

Police said on July 2 the Kane County Sheriff’s Office notified them that they had arrested Naqyi in the 800 block of Victoria Drive and had taken him into custody. He was transported to the Kane County Jail in St. Charles where is bail was set at $25,000.
