Morris City Council appoints public information officer

MORRIS – During the Morris City Council meeting Tuesday night, the council approved an ordinance amending the city’s municipal code, creating Chapter 2.40 to establish the role of public information officer for the city of Morris.

Mayor Chris Brown appointed Stan Knudson as the city’s public information officer. Knudson, a former alderman, will be the first contact for media and the public for the city of Morris throughout the remainder of work that the fire involves, as well as any future incidents that may occur.

“My job will be to disseminate information to the public via press releases, the city of Morris Facebook page and any other avenues that are available,” Knudson said. “I will help coordinate the various agencies, like the [Environmental Protection Agency], the Grundy County Health Department, the fire department. There is a lot of work yet to be done down the road.

“I am looking forward to doing this job. I was a city councilman for eight years and I have strong ties to the city of Morris. When both [fire and police] chiefs and the mayor asked me, it was a surprise, but I answered the call, just like they have answered the call throughout all of this.”
