No injuries in McHenry garage fire Wednesday

A garage fire Wednesday night in McHenry resulted in no injuries, the McHenry Township Fire Protection District said.

McHenry Township Fire Protection District crews responded at 8:58 p.m in the 800 block of Althoff Drive where they found heavy smoke coming from a one-story single-family home, according to a news release.

Firefighters entered the garage area to extinguish the fire, while simultaneously searching the residence for occupants, the district said in the release.

The fire had started in a garage attached to the house and went through the garage’s roof, Deputy Chief Steven Spraker said.

“[The fire] never actually made it inside the house, so the house and all the contents inside were saved,” Spraker said.

The building is temporarily uninhabitable due to the power and gas being shut off, according to the press release.

McHenry Township’s Fire Protection District received automatic aid from Spring Grove and Fox Lake’s fire protection districts.

A damage estimate was not available Thursday afternoon. The fire is under investigation by the McHenry Township Fire Protection District.
