One dead after car, semi crash in Sycamore Township, says sheriff

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP – One person died Tuesday after a crash involving a car and two semi-trailer trucks along Peace Road in Sycamore Township, said DeKalb County Sheriff Andy Sullivan.

Peace Road will remain closed between Route 64 and Freed Road near the Kishwaukee River for “another couple hours” as crews work to clear the debris from the crash which occurred on Peace Road south of Freed Road, Sullivan said.

The identity of the crash victim is not being released yet pending next of kin, said the sheriff.

“It’s still under investigation, and we’re conducting traffic control,” Sullivan said. “A passenger car was driving northbound on Peace Road and was eventually struck by a southbound semi-tractor trailer. The semi was hauling beverages. There was another semi behind that was also struck by some debris.”

Sullivan said the crash occurred around noon. Two others were transported to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb with non life-threatening injuries, Sullivan said.

“It appears at this time that the passenger car was passing vehicles on the right, lost control and then was struck,” Sullivan said.

He said he expects sheriff’s officials to remain on the scene for another couple of hours while crews work to get the vehicles removed and the road cleaned.

Officials from the Sycamore police and fire departments and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office auxiliary assisted.

This is a developing story which could be updated as more information becomes available.
