The Plainfield Park District earned a state grant which it said will be used to improve its trail connections.
The grant comes from the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program, according to a news release.
The $384,000 grant will be used to extend Old Renwick Trail connecting the north terminus at River Point Estates to recently-acquired Park District property at the corner of Renwick and River Roads.
The extension will allow for a connection to the Springbank Trail to the north through Mather Woods with further connections to the village of Plainfield’s Settlers Park and on through downtown Plainfield.
The grant covers 80% of the estimated total cost of the $480,000 project.
The Park District will complete the engineering and permitting phase this year and plans to start construction in 2022.
