Police investigate fatal shooting outside Gurnee mall

GURNEE — Police are looking for the person or persons who shot a 26-year-old Zion resident to death Nov. 27 in a parking lot near Gurnee Mills Mall.

About 2:10 p.m. Gurnee police officers responded to a parking lot in the 6100 block of Grand Avenue (Gurnee Mills) for reports of a gunshot victim, according to a news release.  Officers and paramedics located the man in a parking lot on the northeast side of the property.

The man, a 26-year-old Zion resident, was shot in the parking lot. A Good Samaritan provided first aid until police officers and paramedics arrived. 

The man was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased just before 7 p.m.

The shooter or shooters fled from the scene before police officers arrived.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office scheduled an autopsy for the man Nov. 29.

Gurnee Police requested the assistance of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force to assist in the investigation. This incident is being actively investigated by Gurnee Police Detectives and Lake County Major Crime Task Force Investigators.
