Police investigate homicide in Gurnee

GURNEE — Police say 22-year-old Waukegan man who was brought to a hospital after being shot may have been the victim of a road rage incident in Gurnee.

About 12:05 a.m. Nov. 20, a 22-year-old Waukegan man drove to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan with his passenger, another 22-year-old Waukegan man, who had been shot, police said in a news release.

The passenger died from his wounds and was pronounced dead in an emergency room.

An investigation found that the man had been shot in the area of Waveland and Grandview avenues in Gurnee. The shooting scene was located by Gurnee police officers, and the Lake County Major Crime Task Force was called in to assist with the investigation.

Just before the shooting, police say the driver had been driving in a reckless manner and the shooting may have been a result of a road-rage incident. When the driver turned onto Waveland Avenue and began to slow down, another vehicle pulled behind him. Someone from that vehicle began shooting and one round struck the passenger, police said.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy for the victim on Nov. 22.

This incident is being actively investigated by Gurnee Police Detectives and Lake County Major Crime Task Force Investigators.
