Police: Two dead in multi-vehicle accident on I-80

A crash involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 80 near Joliet on Saturday morning left two people dead and westbound lanes closed, according to the Illinois State Police.

Illinois State Police District 5 troopers were at the scene of the crash shortly before 10:15 a.m. Saturday, according to a police statement. The accident occurred at milepost 127, just west of the interchange with Interstate 55, according to Joliet Fire Chief Greg Blaskey.

All westbound lanes of I-80 in the area had to be closed for the crash investigation, state police said.

An ambulance from the Joliet Fire Department, along with a helicopter, were sent to the scene, according to a Facebook post from the Joliet Firefighters Local 44.
