Princeton and St. Bede to do battle

It’s been a quick 2021 COVID-19 basketball season, which winds down this week.

The Princeton and St. Bede basketball teams will meet for the first time.

The Tigers (5-3, 4-0) will host the Bruins (1-10, 1-6) in a Three Rivers East boys clash at Prouty Gym with a 5:30 p.m. sophomore start and the varsity at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed for free on Tiger Central Live on YouTube.

The Bruins will return the favor by welcoming the Tigers to the Academy hardwood at the same times Friday.

The girls teams were scheduled to play at PHS Monday night, but the Lady Bruins (5-3) went on a COVID-19 pause. They are expected to meet Thursday at the Academy, which will be the final game for the Tigresses (5-3).

In other Tuesday night hoops, the Princeton girls travel to PC for a 7 p.m. varsity tilt only while the Hall boys (3-6) travel to Erie-Prophetstown for a sophomore/varsity double-header.

Seasons end

Many area teams have racked up the basketball balls for good this season. Bureau Valley planned to end its season a week early to allow its multi-sport athletes to prepare for the spring seasons.

Other teams have had to take a knee due to COVID-19, including both the L-P boys and girls teams. L-P has shut down all extracurriculars and has gone to fully remote learning due to a COVID-19 outbreak.
