Princeton on its way to approve green power option

PRINCETON — Princeton City Council has approved a first reading of an ordinance that will allow residential and business customers to put green energy into the power grid.

If approved on second reading, the ordinance would allow electric customers to purchase Renewable Energy Credits (REC) through the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency. Customers can purchase RECs for between 1% and 100% of the electricity they anticipate using, without having to have solar or wind-powered energy.

Those interested can contact city hall for information how to sign up for the program and/or get assistance in determining the appropriate amount to purchase.
