Rock Falls Rotary applies donation from first graders to childhood literacy program

Volunteer classroom readers hold a $303 check that will be used to purchase books for children ages 5 and younger. The money was originally raised by kindergarten to second-grade students at East Coloma Nelson School in Rock Falls to support the work of the three Rotarians, who donate their time to read to the classes. In turn, the Rotary is applying the money to promote literacy through a book delivery program. Pictured are, from left, Betty Clementz, who reads to third-grade classes, Cheryl Faber, who reads to first-graders, and Bob Sondgeroth, who reads to second-graders.
