A Romeoville man was killed in Joliet after his Cadillac struck a metal median, flipped over and pinned him to the ground, authorities said.
About 5:43 p.m. Tuesday, Illinois State Police troopers responded to the scene of a single-vehicle fatal crash at Interstate 80, east of Center Street in Joliet, according to Illinois State Police Trooper Omoayena Williams.
A preliminary investigation revealed a 2005 white Cadillac traveled on the west lanes of I-80, east of Center Street, and veered off the roadway “for unknown reasons” and struck a metal median, Williams said.
The vehicle went into the right ditch and overturned an unknown number of times, Williams said. The vehicle came to a rest on the driver’s side.
The Will County Coroner’s Office identified the driver of the Cadillac as Samuel Galvez, 40. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency crews with the Joliet Fire Department responded to the crash and found Galvez “partially ejected and pinned under the vehicle,” Joliet Fire Chief Greg Blaskey said. He was the sole occupant of the Cadillac.
An autopsy for Galvez is scheduled for Wednesday.
The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
