Second night of severe storms brings downed trees, power lines, road closures

SYCAMORE – A portion of Somonauk Street remains closed Wednesday afternoon after a downed tree fell on a home in the 1200 block of Somonauk Street in Sycamore following another night of severe thunderstorms.

Somonauk Street is closed in the 1200 block between Arbor and Becker streets in Sycamore as crews work to clear debris and trees which fell following high winds and rain Tuesday night, a day after several tornadoes ripped through the county, the most severe just outside Sycamore, an EF-1.

In tornadoes’ wake, residents sift through ruins

While Tuesday night’s storms did not bring tornadoes, they continued into Wednesday with another severe thunderstorm warning Wednesday morning. A heat advisory continues through 7np.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service, and the area remains at risk for a third night of thunderstorms expected in the evening.

This story has been edited to say that Somonauk Street between Arbor and Becker is closed. An earlier version of this story listed the incorrect side street name. The Daily Chronicle regrets the error.
