The Sycamore Police Department will be sending out extra patrols in the weeks leading up to Labor Day, and are urging drivers to remain safe and vigilant.
According to a news release from the department, Sycamore police will participating in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” state campaign and also crack down on distracted driving.
During the campaign, extra patrols will be on the streets Aug. 16 through Labor Day, and the early morning hours of Sept. 3, the release shows.
Those driving drunk, unbuckled, or distracted – including using electronic devices which is now considered a moving violation under state law – will be cited.
The campaign is part of a collaboration with the Sycamore Police Department and the Illinois Sate Police, and is funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. Visit www.lifeordeathillinois.com for more information.
