Two weekend homers for Michael Hermosillo against Toledo Mud Hens

DES MOINES, Iowa – A couple home runs over the weekend highlighted another productive week with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs for 2013 Ottawa High School graduate Michael Hermosillo.

The right-handed outfielder slammed homers both Friday and Saturday during the I-Cubs’ road series at the Toledo (Ohio) Mud Hens — a seventh-inning solo shot Friday followed by a third-inning solo home run Saturday.

Heading into the Iowa Cubs’ upcoming six-game series at the Columbus (Ohio) Clippers, in 36 games played Hermosillo has a .305 batting average and .966 on-base plus slugging percentage, both team-highs amongst players with over 100 at-bats. He has seven home runs, 24 runs batted in and seven stolen bases in nine attempts.

Hermosillo was a 28th-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Angels in 2013 and signed with the Cubs as a free-agent outfielder this offseason.

The Iowa Cubs currently are 26-37, in last place in the Triple-A East’s Midwest Division.

The Chicago Cubs — widely expected to be sellers as the trade deadline approaches, potentially clearing room for Hermosillo to join the big-league team — are 46-47, tied for third in the National League Central, nine games behind Milwaukee.
