Update: Fairview Drive, Taylor Street closed in DeKalb to flooding as advisory continues to 4:45 p.m.

Ongoing flooding from Thursday night’s storms has caused a roadway to shut down temporarily in DeKalb, and the National Weather Service has issued an areal flood advisory for DeKalb County through 4:45 p.m. Friday.

DeKalb police issued a warning to residents Friday that Fairview Drive from First Street to Annie Glidden Road is closed due to flooding. Taylor Street by Lions Park is also expected to close Friday.

The DeKalb Park District also announced on social media their sites are experiencing “major flooding,” specifically at Deprin, Hopkins, Lions, Prairie, Rotary and Veteran’s parks.

“Floodwater and standing water can be dangerous and can make you vulnerable to infectious diseases, chemical hazards and injuries,” the post reads. “Protect yourself and your loved ones from the risks brought on my floodwater by not driving or biking through or entering any type of floodwater.”

Storms rolling through DeKalb County on Thursday night and early Friday morning caused flood and wind damage throughout the county.

While there were reports of a tornado near Waterman that moved toward Hinckley, a spokesman for the National Weather Service said there were no confirmed tornadoes in the area. There were straight-line wind damage reports he said.

While most road flooding had receded Friday, Taylor Street in DeKalb near Lions Park was closed. Fairview between First Street and Annie Glidden Road was also closed.

Power lines and tree branches were down on Friday morning between Waterman and Hinckley. According to a Com Ed outage map, there were no significant outages.

There was flooding and mild wind damage throughout DeKalb County on Friday morning. Almost 3 inches of rain was reported at the DeKalb airport.
