Woman charged with kicking nurse’s head at Joliet hospital

A woman was arrested after she was accused of kicking a nurse in the head while they were trying to assist her in the emergency room, police said.

About 7:50 p.m. Monday, officers responded to AMITA Health Saint Jospeh Medical Center in Joliet after receiving a report of an emergency room patient who was in conflict with a staff member, Joliet police said in a news release.

Officers reported that Lillie Stephens, 63, was taken to the emergency room by ambulance while she was intoxicated.

“Stephens was uncooperative with hospital staff and kicked a nurse in the head while they attempted to assist her,” police said.

The nurse suffered a minor injury during the altercation, police said.

After Stephens was released from the hospital the following morning, she was taken to the Will County jail. She subsequently was charged Wednesday with aggravated battery to a nurse and criminal damage to property, court records show.

Stephens was released from jail on a $10,000 recognizance bond. She was ordered to have no contact with St. Joe’s hospital unless it is for medical emergency purposes, records show.

Stephens is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Aug. 4 to determine whether she committed the offenses she is charged with.
