Yorkville Public Library announces upcoming adult programs

Monday Movie Madness: Monday, July 26, 1 p.m. The last Monday of each month the library will show a feature film with refreshments. Based on the best-selling novel The Art of Racing in the Rain, by Garth Stein, this film is a heart-warming tale narrated by a witty and philosophical dog named Enzo (voiced by Kevin Costner). No registration is required. Call the library for more details.

How Corn Changed Itself and Then Changed Everything Else: Tuesday, July 20, 7 p.m. Presented by Cynthia Clampitt, come learn about the history of corn and how it transformed the Americas before First Contact, how it traveled the world after First Contact, and its stunning impact on the creation of not only the historic Midwest but just about everything in it today. Sponsored by the Illinois Humanities Road Scholars Speakers Bureau. Registration is required.

Creative Writing Group: Tuesday, July 27, 7 p.m. in person and via Zoom. Whether you are looking to write the next thriller, your biography, a short story, or even develop your professional writing skills, this program may be for you. This group is for all people who are passionate about words. Its intent is to create a positive, encouraging, honest, and fun atmosphere that will support and motivate each other to achieve excellence in writing. Threads and More Group: Tuesday, Aug. 3, 10 a.m. This group meets on the first Tuesday of each month in the Michelle Pfister Meeting Room of the library. This group is a combination of people who like to knit, crochet, quilt, sew, or needlepoint. Just bring your unfinished project to work on during the meeting. This is a great time to meet fellow “threaders” for a creativity blast. No registration is required.

Lunch Bunch Book Club: Wednesday, Aug. 11, noon in person and via Zoom. This group meets on the second Wednesday of each month in the Michelle Pfister Meeting Room of the library. You are welcome to bring in your lunch during this meeting. This month the group will be discussing “The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hill” by Robert Dugoni.
