Yorkville Public Library lists upcoming youth programs

The Yorkville Public Library has announced the following upcoming youth programs.

Virtual 3D Printing: Leah English provides a step-by-step tutorial on how to use Tinkercad. Tinkercad is an easy-to-use, 3D CAD design tool, where you can create an object to print on our 3D printer. Check out the library’s website to link to the YPL YouTube channel, follow the steps to create your own 3D printed piece. Prints cost $0.20 per gram.

2021 Summer Reading Program: Reading Colors Your World: June 1 – July 31. We are challenging our young patrons to read 425 minutes each month. At the end of each month, children can submit their reading log to be entered into the Grand Prize Raffle. Record minutes on the print log available at the library or use the online portal to record your minutes via the YPL website (under summer reading). Using the online portal will also allow for weekly challenges and prizes. Grand prize will be drawn Aug. 2.

Window art: Tuesday, June 1-Thursday, June 3 by appointment at YPL. Help us liven up the library with window art. Due to restrictions, contact the Youth Service Department for an appointment time at 630-553-4354 ext 108. Space is limited.

Chalk the Walk: Monday, June 1, 1:30 p.m. Weather permitting. Join us for outdoor fun at the library. Ms. Jennette will read a book, then each child will have an area to decorate using sidewalk chalk. Register for this event on the YPL website under Calendar of Events.

TAG-Teen Advisory Group: Tuesdays, June 1, 15 and 29, 2:45 p.m. This year our TAG members are focusing on “BE THE CHANGE” by giving back to the community. Teens in grades eight through 12 get together to share ideas about the teen area in the library. They help create and plan programs. This group also has opportunities to earn volunteer hours. Great chance to meet new people and have some fun and laughs. Face masks and social distancing are required.

Stories in the Park- Town Square: Wednesday, June 2, 11:30 a.m. weather permitting. Stories in the Park is back. Grab a blanket or chairs and join Ms. Jennette in the Town Square at 11:30 a.m. to listen to several stories. Feel free to bring a sack lunch or purchase a hot dog meal from Hometown Hotdogs.

Spanish Story Time on Facebook: Thursdays, June 3 and 17. Join Señora Katalina on the Yorkville Public Library Facebook page for Story Time in Spanish.

Drop in Story Time (virtual): Every Friday on YPL Facebook. Each Friday morning, watch Ms. Jennette read a story on the Yorkville Public Library Facebook page.

Drop in Story Time (at YPL): Every Friday, 10:30 a.m. Join us at YPL for Drop In Story Time. This story time will be in the Michelle Pfister Room. Face masks and social distancing are required.

Stories in the Park- Caledonia Park: Wednesday, June 9, 10:30 a.m. weather permitting. Grab a blanket or chairs and join Ms. Jennette at Caledonia Park, 354 Shadow Wood Drive, to listen to several stories.

Tots and Toddlers: Thursday, June 10, 10:30 a.m. Join us in the Michelle Pfister Meeting Room for songs, stories and dancing. Your child will receive a take home craft to complete. Face masks and social distancing are required. Register for this event on the YPL website under Calendar of Events.

Book Club (grades 1 and 2): Thursdays, June 10 and 17, 4 p.m. In this two-session book club, we will read an easy chapter book. Register for both days on the YPL website. Face masks and social distancing are required.

Summer STEM Camp- 4-H and Yorkville Public Library: June 14-16, 10:30 a.m. to noon; ages 5-8. Discover the basic principles of static electricity, pop rockets, wind energy, flight, migratory patterns, and animal adaptations. This three day program will be held YPL in the Michelle Pfister Meeting Room. There is a $30 per participant to cover the cost of materials. Learn more and register at go.illinois.edu/4HSTEMCamp2021. Summer STEM Camp- 4-H and Yorkville Public Library: June 14-16, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.; ages 9-12. Explore and learn about robotic bugs, environmental science, wind energy, water conservation and quality, and rockets (build and launch your own). This three day program will be held YPL in the Michelle Pfister Meeting Room. There is a $40 per participant to cover the cost of materials. Learn more and register at go.illinois.edu/4HSTEMCamp2021. Stories in the Park- Purcell Park: Wednesday, June 16, 10:30 a.m. weather permitting. Grab a blanket or chairs and join Ms. Jennette at Purcell Park, 325 Fairhaven Drive, to listen to several stories.

Movie Monday for Kids: Monday, June 21, 1 p.m. Get out of the heat and relax by watching a free movie with your family. Join us in the Michelle Pfister Room to watch the movie “Soul”. Register the total number of people who will be in attendance on the YPL Calendar of Events page. Face masks and social distancing are required.

Book Club (grades 3 to 5): Mondays, June 21 and 28, 4 p.m. In this two session book club, the participants will receive the book on June 21. Then it will be discussed at the next session on June 28. Register for both days on the YPL website. Face masks and social distancing are required.

Colorful Creatures of Illinois: Tuesday, June 22, 11 a.m. via Zoom. Discover a rainbow of wildlife with Colorful Creatures of Illinois. This virtual, interactive program introduces local animals who adapt to their environments using color, shape, and other cool methods of camouflage and trickery. Join us here at the library to watch the presentation in the large meeting room or you can join the Zoom program at home. Register on the YPL website Calendar of Events.

Stories in the Park- Autumn Creek North: Wednesday, June 23, 10:30 a.m. weather permitting. Grab a blanket or chairs and join Ms. Jennette at Autumn Creek North, 1397 Slate Drive, to listen to several stories.

Only One YOU”: Thursday, June 24, 11 a.m. or 2 p.m. We are reading the inspiring book, “Only One You” by Linda Kranz. After a brief discussion, we will paint a rock to add to an area in the children’s courtyard. Wear old clothes. Registration is on the YPL website. Face masks and social distancing are required.

Stories in the Park- Beecher Park: Wednesday, June 30, 10:30 a.m. weather permitting. Grab a blanket or chairs and join Ms. Jennette at Beecher Park, 908 Game Farm Road, to listen to several stories.

• The Yorkville Public Library is located at 902 Game Farm Road in Yorkville. The library now offers online registration at yorkville.lib.il.us/. Use the online registration to register your child for programs. The library is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Face coverings must be worn in the building. Curbside service is available for those not wishing to enter the library.
