City of DeKalb residents served by Lakeshore Recycling Systems for garbage and recycling service can begin to put out bulk or extra items. Bulk item had previously been on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The city and LRS ask that residents limit the number of extra or bulk items placed at the curb.
Those with LRS service can place one bulk item out a week. If a resident has more to remove, call LRS Customer Service at 815-770-7550. Residents also should consider gradually placing out bulk items so Lakeshore crews can begin to catch up with an anticipated higher volume of those items.
Mattresses must be in a plastic cover and securely taped closed. Plastic mattress covers can be found at local hardware stores such as Lowe’s, Home Depot, Walmart, Target, storage facility stores and even online via Amazon.
Carpet cannot exceed 4 feet in length, 18 inches in diameter and 50 pounds a roll. Carpet must be secured and tied. Loose carpet will not be accepted. Eight rolls of secured carpet will be accepted as one bulk item.
Loose garbage bags must not have holes and must be tied. Bags cannot exceed 30 gallons or 50 pounds when full. Contractor bags are considered a bulk item.
