Stage Coach to offer free fabric, food drive

DeKALB – Stage Coach Players will perform some community outreach during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Tuesday, the theater group will give away fabric to those who are making their own masks or other creative ventures.

It will run from 3 to 6 p.m. in the back parking lot.

In addition to the fabric giveaway, Stage Coach Players will hold a food drive to benefit Barb Food Mart.

All nonperishable items will be accepted, such as canned meat, vegetables and fruit, along with boxed food and items in plastic containers.

Glass containers cannot be accepted.

Barb Food Mart opened in June 2013. Its goal is to reduce food insecurity and increase nutrition education throughout the DeKalb School District.

At the time, 50% of the students received free and/or reduced lunch assistance.

Today, that number is 58% according to a news release. Barb Food Mart serves 80 to 100 families each Thursday, providing family-friendly meals, meat, fresh produce and milk.

The group will host a food drive for the Spartan Food Bank in the coming weeks.

Stage Coach Players is located at 126 S. Fifth St. in DeKalb.
