Update: 3:15 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for parts of eastern DeKalb County until 3:45 p.m., including Hinckley and Sandwich.
Update 3 p.m.: The City of DeKalb has activated citywide tornado sirens due to high winds, though no tornado is present locally at this time, according to an alert sent to by the DeKalb Police Department around 3 p.m. Monday.
The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for DeKalb until 3:30 p.m. and a severe thunderstorm watch until 7 p.m.
Thunderstorms may have up to 80 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Strong winds may last more than 30 minutes. Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be heavily damaged. Expect considerable damage to roof, windows and vehicles. Extensive tree damage and power outages are likely.
Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for protection. This afternoon’s thunderstorms have the potential to cause serious injury and significant property damage.
