The Voluntary Action Center of DeKalb County is issuing a thanks to the Sycamore Lions Club, numerous financial donors and 27 volunteers who delivered hot meals to homebound senior citizens on Easter Sunday.
“We served 253 meals to seniors on Easter Sunday,” nutrition programs director Colleen Bredeson said in a news release. “155 meals were delivered out of our Sycamore location and another 98 meals were delivered to seniors from the Sandwich site.”
The Sycamore Lions Club sponsored the meals along with numerous other donors who brought in more than $1,000 to provide the Easter meal, with more coming in every day, the release states. All monetary donations go to providing the food for the seniors.
“We had at least 10 Sycamore Lions Club members, a young family of four, two couples and four other individuals volunteer to deliver meals to seniors in the Sycamore area,” Bredesen said in the release. “Our Easter meal consisted of a Cornish Hen, rice pilaf, parisian carrots, a fruited gelatin salad, a dinner roll, an Easter Egg and an Easter cupcake.”
“Five drivers donated their time to deliver meals to 98 seniors in our Sandwich program,” VAC kitchen manager Sallie Craig said. “Our Sandwich area seniors received a meal of baked ham, cheesy potatoes, green bean casserole, and dessert of Boston Cream Cake.”
“It is not too late to donate to help our seniors,” Craig said. “Our number of recipients are increasing daily. We are so thankful to continue to get donations of bags, homemade masks, money for food, and volunteers to help.”
