2 shootings, 1 wounded in Joliet: cops

Officers were investigating two Tuesday shootings, including one that left a young woman with a gunshot wound to her leg.

About 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the 1300 block of Fairmount Avenue for a report of shots fired, Joliet said.

When officers arrived, they found a residence that had been targeted in a gun attack.

Officers then located a 22-year-old woman in the residence who had been shot in the leg, police said. She was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox by paramedics with the Joliet Fire Department.

Police said the woman’s injuries were not life-threatening.

About an hour later that same night, officers were sent to the intersection of Charlesworth and Meeker avenues for a report of shots fired.

Officers arrived and found spent shell casings in the roadway, police said.

“At this time, it appears that nothing had been struck by gunfire,” police said.

Both shootings remain under investigation.

Police officials are asking anyone with information on both shootings to contact the Joliet Police Department’s investigation unit at 815-724-3020.
