3 things to know about physical therapy and insurance

Physical therapy can help you recover from surgery, relieve pain and improve mobility.

Your doctor may suggest physical therapy for injuries or long-term health problems such as arthritis, back pain and sciatica or shoulder pain. Physical therapy may be used alone or with other treatments such as Pilates integration.

Physical therapists are professional health care providers who are licensed by the state in which they practice. Here are 3 things you should know about PT and insurance:

1. Most health insurance plans will pay for some physical therapy, while some insurers require a referral from a doctor. Be Fit! Physical Therapy and Pilates is an independent rehabilitation and exercise facility in Downers Grove and accepts most major medical insurances.

Most insurance plans, including Medicare, workers’ compensation, and private insurers, pay for physical therapy services that are medically necessary and that are provided by or under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist.   Your physical therapist or your insurance company can tell you whether your insurance covers the recommended services and how much your out of pocket costs will be if there are any.

2. Going out of network means that you can choose to see a physical therapist who is not a participating provider with your insurance company. In most cases, the amount paid by the insurance company will be less, and you will be responsible for paying the difference between what the physical therapist charges and what the insurance company pays.

3. If you don’t have health insurance that covers physical therapy services, you can still receive services from a physical therapist by paying for the services directly.

The comprehensive rehab program at Be Fit! Physical Therapy and Pilates treat a wide range of health issues such as neck pain, low back pain, rotator cuff repairs, carpal tunnel, ankle and foot pain, work injuries, muscular strains and post surgical treatments.

Be Fit! Physical Therapy and Pilates offers a unique combination of one-on-one hands on therapy treatments with integrated Pilates for core strength performed by experienced and skilled outpatient therapists.
