After backlog of statewide test results, 33 new COVID-19 cases reported in DeKalb County Friday

The DeKalb County Health Department on Friday reported 33 new cases of the novel coronavirus, the same day the state reported a fix in a public testing backlog which impacted daily case totals this week.

The total number of cases rose to 1,237, though another 101 have fully recovered this week, according to new data.

In the weekly testing and recovery data reported on Fridays by the county, 101 more residents fully recovered, bringing the total to 923 recoveries to date. The county reported running 25,747 tests for a positivity rate of 4.8%. The positivity rate based on the Illinois Department of Public Health website is 5.3%.

The death toll in DeKalb County remained at 36, and no new cases were reported at either Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion or DeKalb County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Both reported new cases this week, but Willow Crest remains at 59 cases and DeKalb Rehab is at three.

Six of the new cases were in residents under 20, 13 in their 20s, four in their 30s, four in their 40s, three in their 50s, three in their 70s and one over 80.

In total, there have been reported 158 cases among residents younger than 20, 343 in their 20s, 185 in their 30s, 152 in their 40s, 146 in their 50s, 85 in their 60s, 63 in their 70s and 71 in their 80s or older.

According to county data, the city of DeKalb reports between 586 to 590 cases. There are 171 to 175 cases in Sycamore; 141 to 145 in Sandwich; 96 to 100 cases in Genoa; 61 to 65 cases in Cortland; 26 to 30 in Kirkland and Hinckley; 21 to 25 cases in Kingston; 16 to 20 in Somonauk and Malta; 11 to 15 in Waterman; and six to 10 in Shabbona. Esmond, Earlville and Maple Park each report one to five cases.

The Illinois Department of Public Health lists cases and tests performed by ZIP code, while the county health department lists cases by municipality. Numbers vary between state and health departments because of data lags.

The 60115 ZIP code, including DeKalb, had 572 cases reported and 9,654 tests administered (a positivity rate of 5.9%); the 60178 ZIP code, including Sycamore, had 180 cases and 4,264 tests (4.2%); the 60548 ZIP code, including Sandwich, had 3,396 tests and 211 cases (6.2%); the 60112 ZIP code, including Cortland, had 62 cases and 933 tests (6.6%); the 60135 ZIP code, including Genoa, had 94 cases and 1,470 tests (6.4%); the 60145 ZIP code, including Kingston, had 26 cases and 384 tests (6.8%); the 60146 ZIP code, including Kirkland, had 28 cases and 517 tests (5.4%); the 60520 ZIP code, including Hinckley, had 24 cases and 571 tests (4.2%); the 60550 ZIP code, including Shabbona, had six cases and 523 tests (1.1%); the 60151, including parts of Maple Park in both DeKalb and Kane counties, had 28 cases and 719 tests (3.9%); and the 60556 ZIP code, including Waterman, had nine cases and 297 tests (3.0%).

In total, IDPH reported 245,371 people in Illinois have tested positive for COVID-19, while 8,143 people have died statewide. As of Friday, 4,309,941 tests have been performed. The site also lists statewide recovery rates, calculated by recovered cases divided by the sum of recovered cases and dead cases. The statewide recovery rose for the first time in months to 96%.
