Beefshack in DeKalb closed for good

DeKALB – Beef Shack in DeKalb has closed for good a little more than a year after it opened.

The cheesy beef sandwich-shop at 1180 W. Lincoln Highway, across from Northern Illinois University and between Happy Wok chinese restuarant and Red Roof Inn & Suites, is now closed, according to a sign on the door. Phone calls to the business remain unanswered and end in the line being dropped.

The Illinois chain’s website www.beefshack.com also no longer lists DeKalb’s location, although does include restaurants in Elgin, St. Charles, Joliet, Huntley and Bartlett.

According to some on social media who attempted to order food in late December, the restaurant closed days before Christmas.

The restaurant opened in DeKalb in the summer of 2018 after several other short-lived restaurants in that space, taking over Mexican eatery Bowlritto after that business vacated the property the previous spring.

Before Bowlrrito opened in March 2017, the building was home to Diddy Dogs, a specialty hot dog restaurant, which opened in 2015.

Beef Shack’s menu, which varies by location, features beef and cheese sandwiches, cheeseburgers, chicken sandwiches, grilled cheese, Chicago dogs, Italian sausage, cheesy garlic bread and salad. The restaurant also does catering and delivery orders.
