John P. Fundell, 30, of Blue Island was sentenced by Judge James Andreoni for a class 1 felony of possession of fentanyl with intent to deliver.
Fundell was sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. He was also convicted of a misdemeanor of driving under the influence.
Fundell was sentenced as the result of a May 23 call to Bureau County Sheriff’s Department, where Deputies were dispatched to Ladd for a reported traffic accident.
Fundell was identified as the driver of the vehicle. Located on Fundell and within his vehicle was a substance that was confirmed by the State Crime Lab to be fentanyl. There was also evidence to indicate the intent to deliver the fentanyl.
Based on the observations of the deputy, Fundell was observed to be under the influence and could not safely operate a vehicle.
Fundell was prosecuted by First Assistant State’s Attorney Tom Briddick. He was represented by Public Defender Ray Nolasco.
