Bureau Valley to host College/Career/Military Fair Day on Oct. 20

Bureau Valley High School will host a College/Career/Military Fair Day from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20. The event will coincide with students’ early dismissal schedule.

College representatives will be on hand with information about enrollment, programs of study and scholarship opportunities. Certification programs will also be invited.

Likewise, military recruiters will provide information for students interested in enlisting after graduating from high school.

Businesses and corporations are also encouraged to set up a table and/or presentation to showcase their specific industries, including needed skills, employability, career pathways, salary, etc.

Representatives will have a table and chairs set up in the main gymnasium at BV High School.

Each grade level will have 40 minutes to speak, in individual or small group sessions, with representatives about lifelong career opportunities, area career needs and pathways to these careers.

Jon Mandrell of Sauk Valley Community will speak with all students about the industrial landscape and career opportunities in the Sauk Valley Area. Ken Burn of the Whiteside Area Career Center will give a presentation on learning opportunities and Frank Zuker of Jostens will provide class ring information to all sophomores and graduation materials to all seniors.
