Christmas to come early for some in DeKalb County with annual Goodfellows holiday drop-off

SYCAMORE – The day before the big guy in the red suit delivers to all the children in the world, families can help out and do the same for their neighbors in need.

Volunteers have wrapped more than 1,300 gifts in anticipation of Tuesday morning’s Goodfellows event, according to the Goodfellows DeKalb Sycamore Facebook page. The doors for the event open at 7:30 a.m. at Blumen Gardens, 403 Edward St., Sycamore.

Coffee, juice, doughnuts and other treats will be provided. The deliveries start at 8 a.m., and will include family and residents bringing bags full of goodies to homes around the county throughout the morning.

Joel Barczak, co-owner of Blumen Gardens, said he loves how the local residents give so much.

“I think it really exemplifies people’s volunteerism and the whole spirit of Christmas,” Barczak said.
