Collision between semi-trailer and van on I-88 injures two people

CORTLAND – A crash between a semi-trailer and a van early Wednesday morning sent two people to the hospital, officials say.

Both vehicles were heading east when they crashed at 3:59 a.m., Wednesday at Interstate 88’s mile marker 96.25, which is east of Somonauk Road in Cortland, according to Illinois State Police Master Sergeant Brian McKinney.

The semi-trailer rear ended the van, according to an email from Illinois State Police Trooper Elizabeth Clausing.

McKinney, who is with District 15, said one of the injuries was considered serious. Both people who were injured had to be transported for medical care.

“I don’t know what kind of injury,” he said.

McKinney said no one had to be extracted.

McKinney said the interstate wasn’t totally closed off and that traffic was still getting by the crash site.

This is a developing story. We will post more information as it comes in.
